Management of Anaemia in Pregnancy

Anaemia in Pregnancy  Is a condition in pregnancy where by total Haemoglobin (HB) is less than 11g/dl , but we say severe anaemia is less than 7g/dl.

The followings are signs of Anaemia in pregnancy.

Tachycardia

Dyspnoea

Tachpnoea

Eleveted of jugular veins

Basal crepitations along the lungs bases

Enlarged / Tender of Liver.

The followings are Symptoms of Anaemia in Pregnancy

Tiredness / GBW

Dyspnoea

Headache

Palpitations

OEDEMA , swelling of face , hands , legs

The followings are the management of Severe Anaemia in Pregnancy;-

When the patient still not in Labour

Put the patient in sitting up Position

Administer IV frusemide 80MG stat

Insert urinary catheter

Support her with Oxygen

Obtain blood Sample for HB , Xmatch , if possibly

Then REFFER for Definitive Care.
